Sumona Hoque Mumu earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the Medical College for Women and Hospital (MCWH), Bangladesh, and her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Health Promotion and Wellness from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the United Kingdom. She served as a Graduate Research Assistant (2023-2024) and later as a Remote Adjunct Faculty member in 2025 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Prior to her academic roles, she worked as a medical doctor for war-affected populations in humanitarian settings with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), where she observed the long-term mental and physical health consequences of trauma, which sparked her interest in trauma-focused youth health and wellness research. She believes that multidisciplinary collaboration has the power to build stronger science, and she is committed to advocating for the people affected by trauma and adversity through research.
Outside of her professional work, Sumona values her roles as a mother, daughter, and sister. She believes that the good efforts made every day make life meaningful.
